Visitors to Grand Bahama Island have a choice of three exciting native revues:

August 1st Emancipation Day, Public Holiday. The first Monday in August commemorates the Emancipation of slavery in 1834. In Nassau, Fox hill Village is the center for Emancipation festivities. Here, an early morning Junkanoo festival takes place at 1am followed by afternoon of food fest and cultural events.

December: PORT LUCAYA MARKETPLACE CHRISTMAS TREE LIGHTING:
Annual Christmas tree lighting ceremony and concert at Count Basie Square. Music, dancing, food and lots of entertainment including a visit from Santa Claus for the kids.

December: FESTIVALE NOELLE:
This popular annual event at one of the island's premier nature retreats includes wine tasting, arts & crafts, live music and much much more. Location: Rand Nature Centre. For details call (242) 352-5438.

December: JUNIOR JUNKANOO PARADE:
A competitive display of indigenous Junkanoo music, dance and festive costumes by Primary and Secondary School students. A prelude to Boxing Day & New Year's Day Junkanoo Parades. 5pm International Bazaar, The Mall Drive. Bleacher tickets are $10 and are available from the Ministry of Culture (242) 352-2092.

Christmas Day. A public holiday commemorating the birth of Jesus Christ.

26th (LEGAL HOLIDAY OBSERVED 27TH)
Boxing Day. Public holiday. The day is a traditional English holiday which started centuries ago when nobility & landlords boxed leftover Christmas goodies and gave them to servants and tenants.

December 26: BOXING DAY JUNKANOO PARADE:
A spectacular street parade of music, dance and costume. The parade takes place along West Sunrise Hwy from 5pm to midnight.

December 31: PORT LUCAYA'S NEW YEAR'S EVE CELEBRATION:
New Year's Eve party with non-stop dancing and excitement. Starts at 8pm with a fantastic fireworks display at the Count Basie Square, Port Lucaya Marketplace. (242) 373-8446
